out of the ether

April 5, 2007

On my way home this afternoon, I was thinking I should pick up something for my friend who brought over a plant and some homemade muffins last week to cheer me up. I’m still not quite over the shingles, and cheeriness had been in short supply.

But when I got home, I headed straight for the kitchen and the pre-browned pork from yesterday. In the middle of chopping up onions and potatoes, I thought I really should pick up the phone and at least thank her. Family members wandered in and out, and the phone rang. Guess who.

This happens with a cousin as well. But it never ever occurs when I need to communicate with a kid of mine.
