the sunset I missed shooting

December 11, 2005

Others seem to know about the upcoming spectacular sunset this evening. A man standing on a traffic island on Market was pointing his camera in that direction. In Berkeley, a man stood on the corner of Telegraph getting shots of the pink clouds. I watched it in the rear view mirror for awhile, debating if I should, but at that point it had not turned on the intense colors. Once it did, my view was quickly blocked by tall buildings.

how do you fix tofu

It happened again. I ran into the store to get bananas for my breakfast, and a bright-eyed Indian woman stopped me. She held up a bag of tofu squares and said, ‘How do you fix these?’

I’m afraid I gave her my best deer-in-the-headlights stare. Then I laughed, and answered that I did not like tofu, therefore I didn’t fix it much. I asked her why she had so much if she didn’t know what to do with it.

She pointed to the sign, which read, ‘Tofu, 7 for $1.00′. I advised her to get online, where every recipe that ever was resides.

Those carts are filling up as shoppers flock to their desks in record numbers this year. But what we in America choose is quite different from what the average South Korean might buy, and we don’t shop nearly as often as the Brits. Although that number may change as we get closer to the holidays.
