A stroke patient has a much better chance if treatment is applied quickly - within three hours. But now that time frame has been widened to nine hours with the use of desmoteplase (DSPE), a protein found in bat saliva that prevents blood from clotting.
It has yet to be approved by the FDA, but results are very promising.
