ravioli

Interesting how the edges of the ravioli fit into the ridges of the carton. It was quite good.

Gypsy’s on Durant

gypsy's

There was a long line and no empty tables, so we got food to go. The students in front of us had a card for a free salad if we wanted to claim to be part of their group, so we did.

important clue about flesh-eating bacteria

The streptococcus A is found on our skin and in our noses and throats, and most of the time will do no harm. However, it can cause strep throat, toxic shock, and necrotizing fasciitis, or flesh-eating disease.

Scientists recently found that when necrotizing fasciitis occurs, the strep A bacteria blocks the body’s immune system, inhibiting production of white blood cells and other factors that guard against invading infections.

my bird-feeding neighbor

One of my neighbors has been putting out food, which in past years brought large flocks of pigeons. Their growing numbers caused some distress among the other neighbors, as we find our cars bombarded at times.

But she had a heart attack not too long ago, and when we see her outside, we note that she has lost a tremendous amount of weight, and no one wants to say anything about her feeding habits. I’m more concerned with the other creatures attracted by the free food, like rats.

Help may be at hand. Lately I’ve noticed that the resident ravens, who are normally shy about approaching yards, are much bolder. It seems they are driving off the pigeons.
