listening to a speaker

insect + speaker

I’m guessing it was happy with the sound level. No hair was blown back.

trying out the keyboard

I let it roam around a bit before escorting it outside where the surfaces are more friendly for tiny legs.

seafood ice cream

The concept is not new, but has undergone some tweaking in Taiwan. Whereas in Japan, flavors run to one main ingredient, such as corn, eel, or ox tongue, the Taiwanese like a mix. Strawberry tuna, mango seaweed, and pineapple shrimp are among the offerings.

also reading: Toast by Nigel Slater

In one of those brainless moments I get when I’m hungry and far from food, I took a look at the title and thought, how can someone write a whole book about toast? Then I flipped through a bit, realized I had read Slater before with great appreciation, and brought it home.

I could write a book on brainless moments.

catching up: LOTR

No, I still haven’t seen the last one. The boys tell me it is at least 30 minutes too long, and I should turn it off before it’s really over.

Is it longer than Hidalgo?

UK: indoor extreme sports

Protected from the elements, the pleasure seeker can choose to ice climb in minus 6C temps, bungee jump from 160 ft up, or experience skydiving. And it won’t cost a fortune.

We moms used to try to think of new sites for birthday parties other than the usual choices of miniature golf, bowling alley, or skating rink. Junior versions of the jumps and skydiving might be great ways to work off the youthful energy that could get out of hand within a home party.

The fear generated by the possibilities might even keep some from accepting an invitation. (You want my child to do what?)

As it turned out, once the boys got old enough, they only wanted LAN parties.

the crocodile with a tyrannosaurus head

The journal Science announced today that the crocodile lived 135 million years ago, and had an 18-inch snout with 13 teeth. These sawtooth-edged choppers allowed it to prey on plesiosaurs, ichtyosaurs, and other marine reptiles.

After checking out the equipment, it is now exploring one of the ivy geraniums outside.

new camera tech: sharp focus every single time

So how many shots have you had to toss because someone moved, or your hand shook, or the light conditions were low? A Stanford professor, Pat Hanrahan, has developed a camera that stores light information differently. Because of this, the image can be refocused with software after it is taken.

an albino deer

The hunter, 82, thought at first that it was a goat. But it turned out to be a four-point buck, photo is here.

Kuwait: bird flu arrives

Two cases are found, one, a flamingo at a beach. The second, a peacock imported from Asia. No word yet on whether this is the H5N1 strain.

No time to make a smoothie, but the ingredients are pretty much the same.

Miss Sun. Which we might see today.
