October 1, 2005

It will be 2,330 feet tall, and will take its design inspiration from the Himalayan peaks. Look for it in 2013.

getting out of quicksand

You can save yourself if you remember all these things. Oh, and relax. A lot of movement will only make it worse.

That’s easy to say when you’re nice and dry, and not in quicksand.

dinner and a movie: Two Brothers

Leftover barbecued pulled pork sandwiches are still good. Two Brothers was one of the videos bought today at the movie sale, and it’s a good one. Guy Pearce looks as if he could use a sandwich or two, and the animals are gorgeous. If my kids were home, they would have groaned as much as the cubs did, but thankfully, the human portion of the story did not dominate.

And Pearce gets to cuddle up with one of the cubs.

Mirror Mask trailer

Written by Neil Gaiman of The Sandman fame, the trailer is intriguing.

comfort food: turkey dinner

turkey out

When I’m depressed, I get this at the diner. Sometimes the turkey is stringy and the stuffing on the dry side, but the gravy helps. The mashed potatoes are good, and if I’m really down, I contemplate getting the hot fudge sundae as well. But I never have room.

‘Bright Stephanie’ mums

'bright stephanie' mums

At the nursery sale, most things were picked over, but there were still lots of mums left.

movies at a great discount

The local drugstore is phasing out its movie rental section, and VHS tapes are going for $4, DVDs for $5. I got Two Brothers (Guy Pearce) and The Heffalumps Movie.

a link between infections and mental disorders

In the last few days, there has been some surprising news in this area of research. A German group has found that a large percentage of patients with schizophrenia are infected with chlamydia. This is not to say that the infection causes the mental illness, but that treating the infection brings about a marked improvement in the schizophrenia symptoms.

An American researcher reports that chlamydia is also found in Alzheimer’s patients’ brains.

Children with obsessive compulsive disorder are more likely to have anibodies for strep infections in their systems, according to a study by a British research group.

Researchers agree that these findings are not conclusive, and that more study is needed.
