aboriginal weather prediction

Their techniques are not based on science, but on observations dating back some 50,000 years.

Xib Chac

The Mayan rain god. Human sacrifices were made in his name.

thunder

We don’t get many thunderstorms here, which is fortunate if there is a tall redwood in your backyard. Maybe we really did offend the gods of weather somehow.

Tonight we have thunder and a lot of rain.

American Gigolo, off and on, as it rains, off and on.

a minor explosion

A thin chair cushion came apart in the laundry. An amazing amount of fluff covers everything, while the cushion still seems to have most of its contents. It reminds me of the blanket of golden retriever hair in the yard when Brutie was alive.

grazing

a walk in Bol Park

turkey

What started as a quick look at a park turned into an hour-long trek, but a good one. We had hoped to get a glimpse of the sheep that are sometimes allowed to graze here, and found where they were penned up. I was unable to get a good shot. Near the fence was this impressive fellow, who let out a tremendous gobble after his picture was taken. Maybe I should have shown him the result.

crust of bread and such

When I hear God Bless the Child, I keep coming back to the ‘crust of bread and such’ line. I miss grilled cheese on the lc diet, and wonder if there is any way to capture that textural contrast without the use of bread. Actually this song could be on the lc diet soundtrack. ‘You can help yourself, but don’t take too much’ is all about portion control.
