the exam dream

March 5, 2005

At least it wasn’t a college exam that I once again
a) did not study the subject for the entire semester
b) neglected to buy the textbook
c) never could find the classroom, therefore never went to class
d) registered for, but did not show up ever, thereby did not think I had to take the test
e) find that it is calculus once again

No, this time, I was at Long’s drugstore, waiting in line for what I thought was something else, only to encounter a woman who told me that she was sorry, but I had failed the written drivers’ test. What? She said, flapping the test sheet in my face, that I obviously had not studied the manual. Now we’re getting into humiliation.

At least there were no formulas on this test.

Georgia on My Mind

Rainy Night in Georgia. Tall Trees in Georgia. Devil Went Down to Georgia. Wonderful, all of them.

Ray

It’s one of those movies where you think it should have ended thirty minutes ago. I abandoned it during the third or fourth argument with his wife about the drug use.

another night walk

Much darker than usual because I forgot my flashlight, but the stars were starrier. Meats were being grilled all along our route after the warmest day of the year. The talk was of cadavers and embalming (I am still reading Stiff), and the sex scandal at the local high school.

Geometric sculptor: George Hart

In addition to the more typical media of wood and metal, Hart turns to everyday materials such as pencils, CDs, plastic utensils, and toothbrushes. His Music of the Sphere is not only visually appealing, but also a wearable instrument.
